Lucia de Lammermoor

Some weekends ago I went to the opera for the first time. Lucia di Lammermoor was showing at Theatro Municipal, in Rio de Janeiro, for the first time in 40 years.

As this is  a fashion blog, I am not going to discuss Donizetti’s work or the artistic quality of the actors and musicians. But, what really touched me was the scene, the costumes and the contrast between them. The scene consisted only of gray rectangular shapes, representing the Highlands mountains. All the actors wore black except for Lucia, that wore red, black and white and Lucia’s lovers that wore gray.

One of the most impacting moments was the wedding scene. All the guests were carrying red roses, wearing black or dark gray and the bride was wearing white adding more drama to the already dramatic situation.

More pictures of the wedding dress.

The scene was designed by Alberto Renault and the costumes were designed by Claudia Kopke.
